Teacher Self-Care 101
As mental health awareness becomes more and more prevalent in society, individuals are practicing self-care. What is self-care? Defined as any action used to improve a person’s health or well-being, it’s all about taking care one’s self amongst the stressors of everyday life. When considering self-care in teaching, though, it’s a process focused on taking steps to be the best educators possible for their students and themselves. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, it encompasses six elements: physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, social and professional. An ideal self-care strategy would include an activity to address every one of these factors each day. Some of the strategies that can be used to interact with each of these elements everyday have been included in the infographic highlighted alongside this post, be sure to review them for yourself!
